Choosing the Right Floral Preservation Piece

One of the most common questions I get is: “What piece should I choose to preserve my flowers?”

With so many options available, it can feel overwhelming deciding how to best transform your bouquet into something lasting. While every bouquet and client is different, I almost always recommend starting with one larger statement piece first, such as block, tray, table, or wall hanging.

Why? Because larger pieces allow me to preserve the true essence of your bouquet.

Start With the Main Piece

Your bouquet was thoughtfully designed with balance, movement, texture, and color in mind. Larger preservation pieces give enough space to maintain that overall composition and showcase the flowers more naturally and cohesively.

When working within a larger format, we're often able to preserve fuller blooms, keep flowers more intact, and create a final piece that truly reflects the feeling of the original bouquet. These statement pieces become functional artwork, something you can display and enjoy every day.

Add Smaller Keepsakes From There

Once you’ve chosen your main preservation piece, smaller keepsakes like jewelry, ornaments, ring holders, or dishes make beautiful additions. These pieces are perfect for gifting to family members or creating something wearable and sentimental for yourself.

However, I generally advise against choosing only small pieces in an effort to get “more bang for your buck.” Smaller items naturally require flowers to be broken apart, trimmed down, or reduced to petals in order to fit within the piece. While still beautiful, you begin to lose the cohesiveness and structure of the original bouquet when it’s divided into many tiny components.

Choosing the Right Piece for Your Flower Type

The types of flowers in your bouquet also play a major role in determining which preservation pieces will work best.

If your bouquet contains larger, denser flowers such as peonies, garden roses, dahlias, or other thick blooms—I typically recommend deeper pieces like resin blocks or the "11 x 14" tray. These designs have more depth and are better able to support the natural structure and dimension of the flowers during the preservation process.

Shallower pieces can work beautifully for more delicate or flatter flowers, but fuller blooms often benefit from the added space and support of a deeper design.
